National Goat Cheese Month
Did you know that August is National Goat Cheese Month?1 If you have never tried this tangy cheese, now is the perfect time to experiment! Goat cheese, also known as Chevre, has always been popular in the Mediterranean where it originated. When compared to commercial cream cheese made from cow's milk, freshly made goat cheese has about half the fat, cholesterol, and calories.
Goat cheese came about back in 5,000 B.C. in Ancient Greece, when goats were first domesticated. Over time, the practice of making goat cheese spread to Eastern Europe, Africa, India, and South West Asia. The first settlers in America had brought over goats and these ruminants have been present on American farms ever since.
Mini Pear & Goat Cheese Tarts

Miniature tarts make a great appetizer or after-dinner treat. Check out this Mini Pear and Goat Cheese Tart recipe for an easy way to incorporate goat cheese into your next meal.2 It's simple to make and only takes 15 minutes to cook! Make sure to pick up the balsamic vinegar needed for the recipe from Nonna D's Olive Pit at this week's market.
